Nestled in the coastal charm of Umdloti, KwaZulu-Natal, Tyler’s Butcher and Grill is my way of celebrating South Africa’s rich culinary heritage – with a bold, contemporary twist. What started as a passion project has quickly grown into the go-to spot for meat lovers who crave authentic flavours served in a space that’s equal parts industrial edge and warm hospitality.
At the heart of everything we do is our pride and joy: a magnificent custom grill, imported from New York and handcrafted by the world-renowned artisans at Grillworks. It’s not just a grill – it’s the soul of Tyler’s. Our chefs use it to craft meats with perfect precision and smoky, mouth-watering complexity.
Family-style sharing is encouraged at Tyler’s, with generous platters designed to bring people together around the table. Our menu celebrates simplicity, focusing on classic
preparations that let the natural flavours of the meat shine through – just like a home-cooked meal should.

South Africans are born flame-grilled. For generations, we’ve been sharing meals, memories, community and culture at our local steakhouse restaurants. It’s these moments around a table feed our soul.
Our mission at Tyler’s is to elevate those familiar good-feels and homegrown values into a dining experience where magnificent local produce is the star of the show.
Our team of butchers and chefs hand-select the finest available cuts and dry age them on the bone. Once they’ve reached their peak flavour profiles in specialised, temperature-controlled chambers, our block men cut them to order. The magic happens when they hit the flames on our state-of-the-art, wood burning grill.
Our approach is simple. To showcase the true quality of the meat, we use ground black pepper and sea salt flakes. No basting. No marinades. No compromise.
